It's easy to see why. It hangs together in a way that their previous outing just failed to do. The psychedelia is tempered ever so slightly, and comes off as being a more complete item than on Piper. Even the meandering and lengthy title track (which can take some getting used to), stands above the likes of Interstellar Overdrive. Of course, it's all too easy to fall into the trap of judging Saucerful by comparing it to its predecessor.

But by itself it stands up too. A mixture of serious rock tracks and trite pop thrown together with some upbeat tracks mixing the two. Plus a contender for drawn-out rock track of the decade. Is Syd Barrett's significant influence missed on this album?

Roger Waters fills in nicely, and David Gilmour makes his presence felt too. Pink Floyd would improve on this album, but not by much.
